Laminated documents and printed materials are important for many good reasons. To start off with, there’s something so satisfying about watching a laminating machine in action, sealing up and protecting printed materials. Perhaps that’s a little bit subjective and fleeting, but rest assured we’ve got five other great reasons why you should laminate your printed materials:
The first and most obvious benefit of lamination is that it protects your printed materials. Whether it’s old paper contracts, residency permits or immigration documents (perhaps not Australian since everything is practically done online today), handwritten letters you’d like to preserve, and all other sorts of personal documents benefit from lamination.
The rigidity of the lamination helps to protect against small rips or shreds, creases and folds, as well as stains from coffee or food. Moreover, it protects the documents from withering away with the passage of time and exposure to moisture, for example.
In addition to protecting personal documents, lamination is also highly popular for other purposes such as restaurant menus, sports or facility rules and regulations for outdoor activities, business presentations, in teaching and education, and much more.
Lamination makes documents look glossy and this usually makes them look better and perhaps more professional. This effect can sometimes be undesired, so other alternatives might be simply printing backups of the document in case of damage or choosing higher quality card stock that resembles lamination (but isn’t).
For circumstances where lamination is desired or needed, it can greatly enhance the appeal of reading as it can make the document feel more important than if it were just ordinary paper.
For large print runs, it’s always wise to consider the cost per unit. Lamination will add to your cost per unit, so scaling up (or down) print runs should always consider the cost of lamination too.
Where lamination can be cost-effective, however, is when it’s used as an alternative to choosing much more expensive card stock for your printed materials. Printing on ordinary A4 paper costs very little, so adding lamination to the cost can still cost substantially less than doing a whole print run with the best possible card stock.
There are practically no limits as to what can be laminated. Ordinary paper, small cards like personal identification or pocket-sized papers, posters, stickers, brochures and pamphlets, and even large sized signage can be laminated.
Documents that have been laminated can last much longer than those that haven’t, so you may need to file them away when they aren’t needed. Laminated documents hold up well in storage and the lamination is extremely thin, so you shouldn’t have difficulty placing laminated papers side-by-side with other papers in a filing cabinet, for example.
This may seem minor, but for commercial businesses every sensory experience can lead to increased customer satisfaction and more revenue. There’s a reason why major retailers spend millions researching scents, auditory, and visual experiences when customers enter a store.
Laminated documents have a high-quality feel to them, something that is so subtle yet can contribute (even if minimally) to the overall an impression a customer has about your service or product.
